o0o Saturday November 8, 1997 o0o Tomorrow will be the two week anniversary of this site! Yea! here is to two great weeks. well I'd like to thank everyone who actually reads this page, you make my day. Send me e-mail, i need e-mail. Well do to the general badness of Geocities i will be moving this site or making a mirror of it some where... probably on my account with angel fire.... though i do have space on fortune city but my address is so long there.... if anyone knows what the name of these little signs are <> i would be grateful to know what they are. did i tell what happened Thursday? no? okay well here is what happened..... i was happily typing at the key board as the entry from Thursday implies when my computer experience a unhappy power surge followed by the loss of said power. so here i am my screen just flashed bright then went dead and i just sit there dumbfounded. i just lost half a page of a project due that Friday and the comp is no longer working. so i decide that maybe pen and paper isn't such a bad thing and i move to the only spare table in the whole LRC and start to spread out my stuff on this table to work when an announcement comes on over the intercom "some of you may have heard alarms go off or experienced some power failures don't worry about that we are trying to fix it nothing to fear, etc...." and then the lights go out -- let me explain something about my school the LRC has these huge windows so no lights was kinda nice and there is this huge sky light in the main receiving area so it is never really dark in my school during the day even with lights off -- and I'm sitting there thinking 'okay, well better finish this project. and i go and hole punch some papers, noticing that the computer i was working on still hasn't been able to reboot, and the fire alarm goes off. so I'm think what do i do keep working? he said this was going to happen. and i start packing my mess back into my back pack and the librarians are okay everyone file out. and i sling my bag on to my back and start to head out of the LRC and when i get in to the main receiving area i notice that the lights -- regular lights -- are all out and only the strobes on the fire alarm, the exit lights, and the annoying mind killing buzz of the fire alarms are still on. so i go out of the building in to the cold and i live in Seattle and while it wasn't raining it was gray and cold and windy and i was only wearing two thin shirts so I'm absolutely freezing. but after some persistence i was able to get James to let me wear a nice warm leather jacket a bit small for me but oh well. so were standing there James, heather, Jessica, and my self on the track in front of the building with several hundred other high schoolers. then the fire trucks 3 of them come and the fire chiefs little red ford pulls up and 3 police cars and several medics and I'm like 'whoa, is there really a fire?' then i realize the buildings all brick so any fire would only cause superficial damage and my heart sinks. and then the fire men with their oxygen tanks strapped to their backs go in to the evacuated building (there is this bridge leading into the opening of the building wide and sturdy and all but the floor you go into is the second floor from the main entrance so there is this bridge) and they look like heroes going in to save the day. and i commented to my friend how all emergency personnel look like heroes even the guys from fema look like heroes but some how cops don't seem to have that magic luster about them, maybe one to many episodes of cops..... and they come back and then we wait as several people go back in and come out again the Mr. beaman and Mr. byre come out of the building (they are the vice principles) and talk to the fire chief and then they call all the teachers over to them and have a brief discussion and then say where free to go home and that we should go in to the building get our stuff and leave. just as this is happening i see Veronique walking up on the scene (just arrive to school) and i get here to give me a ride home and after getting my stuff from the building with none of its lights on and the exit signs are either hooked up to emergency generators or are battery powered cause their still on and i, Jessica, Alexis, get driven home by Veronique in her very cool and sometimes frightening vw bug. the end. i got home at 12 that day when i normally get home between 4:30 and 5:10. - 3:45 PM |
