0o Thursday, August 20th 1998, 1:33 am o0o I guess I should start with commenting on the new design as the comments in the previous entry are now just confusing... Yeah, this is the new design for belong. it is the third generation of a layout I had named 'the little grey design' but it is no longer grey. This one views well in either IE4 or Communicator if everything is observed as I intended it to be. there is now only one layout and it really only views well in 1024x768, I knew that making a 800x500 image for the basis of the layout would cause problems with people running at 800x600; if nothing else the window border size would make it go over the edges of the monitor, but I wanted pixel widths that were easily divisible and I'm lazy. Also about the pop-up window thing: There are so many variables to consider when making a layout based on an image: the resolution it will be viewed at, the width of the window border (which varies with individual settings), the height of the window allotted (which can vary more than a hundred pixels.) So the only way I could guarantee it looked well to everyone was to remove the variables; that is why belong is now in a pop-up window. It will not include click-less navigation as I said it may -- that got much to annoying. There is a interesting Java script that is reached by clicking on the giant belong on the front page; it is as close to embedding a real audio file as you can get. I made it by piecing together what I'd seen other scripts do. a bit like doctor Frankenstein really. if anyone wants it, take it. Maybe it is just my imagination, but the whites seem whiter in ie4.... though the blues are about the same. I need to sleep. making everything look like this in both browsers was not easy so send me praise, lots of praise. I've been working on this layout for about a week maybe a little more. This work has kept me from spending much time doing anything in the outside world. The last interesting thing I did in the outside world was going to the Fastbacks concert last Friday at the mural amphitheater and I missed seeing Super Deluxe and Turtleneck because of transportation issues. The Fastbacks' lead guitarist is even more of a ham than I, so it was really fun to watch. Well I'm going back into the outside tomorrow. Hmmm... that implies that this is somehow the inside, but in a way it really is. I need to do some socializing that isn't over the phone or via e-mail. I think Gas Huffer is playing Friday... and Alki isn't the same when I'm not there neither is Green Lake for that matter :) Time downtown will cure any malady, I miss the fountains so much; a week away and I'm having withdrawals, but water is the promise of life and that promise as shown through fantastic displays has been missing, not even a single rain shower over the last week. Their are so many fountains in Seattle and I'm constantly discovering more. I guess we're infatuated with water, but if we were not then this would not be our place. I've always lived near water first the Cook Inlet then the Puget Sound and even though I really want to live in New Mexico I don't know how I'll take the lack of water. - I don't know, call me a water sprite. |
