Application Project Journal Misty F. Barber Making a Web Page 10/26/97 Sunday night Tonight I received a free web page from Geocities. The web page has 2mb of free space and my address is: http://www.geocities.com/soho/Gallery/7528. Because I accidentally started using Geocities advance editor I have had to learn how to write HTML tags and I've been using Corel word prefect's basic HTML editor to do stuff then I studied the codes to learn how to do them. I've learned how to insert images into documents , horizontal rules
, and links <a href="url>text to be a link using this technique. time: 6 hours 10/27/97 Monday today by reading the HTML guide Geocities has with their advanced editor I learned how to link sound clips for download text and I learned how to underline text text. I also acquired another page at Geocities this one's address is http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Rampart/8844 and clarified how to link pages together that are on the same site. time: 7 hours 10/28/97 Tuesday I created a poems section to my page that contains four poems. I found a counter for my page, but unfortunately it doesn't work well. I learned how to add a link to my email and included it in my page. I added a real audio clip of orange crush for down load from my site. time: 5 hours 10/29/97 Wednesday Learned how to embed midi (sound files) in HTML from my friend Sean. I then embedded a pulp fiction midi into the main page and a James bond midi into the poems page. I added links to the army's recruiting site and to Evergreen state college's page. I finally found a functional counter and am now using it. I also created an additional section in my page for bass tabs with several base tabs already uploaded. time: 6 hours 10/30/97 Thursday I finally decided today to organize and plan out the future of my page so I drew a pictograph of what my site looks like now and what I want the basic foundation of my page to look like. I have started to restructure my site to look like the pictograph version adding HTML files and uploading midis, wavs, and pictures. I Created a links page today using Geocities advanced editor (basically an online version of notepad) and made a menu bar. I also got Nathan to explain how to make tables to me, but I didn't quiet understand. I have also been asking lots of people for help and I keep getting 'look at peoples source code', but that is what I've been doing and progress is slow. I added a new sub-directory in my directory on my computer for all my web related stuff. Time: 6 hours 10/31/97 Friday I added pictures and sound files to the REM shrine I created yesterday and sound files to the sound and/or noise page. Moved my site from the soho address to area51/rampart/8872 to be closer to the second page (which I have not been maintaining) at area51/Rampart/8844. while on ICQ I asked Sean how to do frames and he directed me to his clan equinox page and told me to look at the source code to figure it out, but I didn't understand it so I'm still trying to find out how to do frames. Sean also gave me permission to use some pictures he had made on my site. time: 7 hours 11/1/97 Saturday I completely redesigned my front page and renamed my site 'Max's bomb shelter' from 'Max's', I added one of seines dragon ball pictures to my front page and a menu bar to take visitors to all places in my page. My page now consists of 21 HTML files and I have been spending a huge amount of time on maintenance and making sure everything works properly. I also tried to add movie scripts to my script page, but found that they took up to much room and had to scrape the idea of having a scripts page. I also changed the main pages midi to the bond one and replaced the poems page one with today. I also forgot the password for my second site and unable to try and edit it. time: 6:30 11/2/97 Sunday today I added midi's to all the body level pages in Max's except the sounds page. I got an account with tripod at http://members.tripod.com/~Girl_Friday/ and I remembered my password for my second Geocities account. I Added counters to all the body level pages of Max's and I changed all the passwords for my various accounts. I also added an article about bill berry's departure from REM to my REM shrine. time: 5 hour 11/3/97 Monday After talking to Matt Romero about my page I learned that Geocities check frequently the amount of links between pages in its vast empire and deletes pages that have too many links to the same site so I quickly took off the navigation bar I had added to my second Geocities account at Area51/Rampart/8872. Time: 15 min. 11/4/97 Tuesday I uploaded some more sound clips to my sounds and noise page today and I wrote a long entry into the 'me' page which acts almost like a online diary. Time: 45 min. 11/5/97 Wednesday I wrote another long entry into the me page and I got an account with anglefire. I set up a front page for the angle fire account that links to my Geocities account. I also attended application's weekly meeting. Time: 3 hour 11/8/97 Saturday Today I wrote yet another entry into the 'me' page. The page is officially called "Me: tales of the life and times" and is slowly becoming a depot for stream of consciousness writing. It is interesting, but fails to really be 'tales of the life and times'. Time: 1 hour 11/14/97 Friday Today was yet another day that smiled on a long journal entry to 'me'. Today was also the day that I decided to implement a plan to add a page to my site that contained some of the better margin doodles that I have drawn. I spent several hours battling my scanner and soft ware to get good copies of the drawings at relatively small sizes, I won. The organization of the page was something that was a bit harder to address and I ended up opting to have them center and in descending order with only one picture on a line. I then spent a bit of time fighting Geocities ftp and after a slightly bloodier battle won that too. I also found that HTML is basically a text file with a different extension and that you could edit using a simple text editor like notepad and while I had known you could view HTML with notepad I hadn't made the connection of actually using it to edit HTML off-line until today. Time: 7 hours 11/24/97 Monday Today I decided to make a mirror site of Max's at a new site I got with Fortunecity at http://www.fortunecity.com/village/montgomery/17/. I saved the most current versions of Max's from the Geocities account and uploaded the base HTML files to fortune city I also added another entry to the now large tales page. time: 5 hours 11/25/97 Tuesday After tying to access the Fortunecity mirror I found that the links didn't work right because they had automatically been converted to the lowercase I spent several hours changing the names and updating the HTML, but due to fortunecity's really poor bandwidth it took 3 hours to do a job that should have took no more than 30-45 minutes because I knew what the problem was when I began. I also uploaded 6 new midi's to both accounts. time: 4 hours 11/26/97 Wednesday I attended the group meeting and reported my progress. I also uploaded the rest of the Max's files, 40+, to the fortune city account and fixed the new link problems that the case conversion caused. Because of fortunecity's tiny band with this took a long time, I now appreciate Geocities even if it is far from instantaneous. Time: 5 hours 11/27/97 Thursday I read 'the beginners guide to HTML' that pretty much summarized that what I already know though it did clear up quiet a bit of things and introduced me to new attributes of the tags I already know. time: 30 min. Total time: 75 11/30/97 Sunday Today I did a little digital house cleaning. I started organizing the MAX'S sub-directory on my computer that holds all the files that make up Max's' bomb shelter and deleted duplicate and triplicate files and old obsolete files. I also moved all the file that were not in use in Max's to different directories. now it is a lot easier to work on Max's off-line. time: 1:45 total time: 76:45 12/2/97 Tuesday today was a black day I tried to move my Fortunecity account to a new address, but only ended getting my self kicked out and somehow voiding my password. the account is still active and that copy of Max's that exists there is as up-to-date and as functional as they get. I tried several passwords and used their password retrieval system but still have been unable to get in. time: 30 min. 12/7/97 Sunday I wrote another entry into tales today and I added more pictures to the pictures page. time: 2 hours 12/8/97 today I felt like I needed more space for my page so I made another pictograph this one showing how I could use my four still functioning sites to give me 10mb of space while not having to deal with tripods incessant ads they have and not having to directly upload files to the angle fire account that doesn't directly support msie4. I stared working on the redistribution plan that it outlined and I made a simple text conversion HTML so I didn't have to start from scratch each time I made a new HTML. I also got a hold of a literally analyze of the REM song 'country feedback' and edited and converted it to HTML and uploaded it. time: 3 hour Total time: 82:15 12/9/97 Tuesday converted page HTML files to text for easier editing. I also got to use the basic HTML converter today in multiple while I converted REM lyrics (from 12 albums), JMS' postings on AOL in 94', and an REM discography to HTML and uploaded the to the angle fire account (though its not really uploading them its me pasting the entire file into their advanced editor and then saving it as the appropriately named HTML.) time: 5 hours 12/10/97 Wednesday I converted la jetee's script to HTML and uploaded it to anglefire. I restructured the REM page from one really long HTML to 1 main page with 19 linked HTML files and changed the links to make it all work. time: 2 hours 12/11/97 Thursday Today was the day of the careful conservative. today I printed out hard copies of my entire page, backed up the page on floppy in addition to the copy on my hard drive, started the plans for a fully functional off-line version for Max's. I also set up a notebook (moving them from a shabby little folio) with hard copies of: the site on disk and on paper, file lists, this journal, all the restructuring plans, the code for the HTML files in hard copy, the HTML guides, and everything else that I have involving wed design or this page. time: 6 hours 12/12/97 Friday today I set up the off-line version of Max's. this version that perhaps should have been set up a month ago allows me to edit off-line easily and check my links faster and just generally make my life much, much easier. This new setup allows me to fix some of the problems with Max's links and focus on the aesthetics of Max's with much more scrutiny. I have made more improvements to my page today than I have in the last week combined. today I also found and read an online explanation of frames released by Netscape, but I couldn't follow it with all the jargon and still don't know how to do frames. time: 5 hours 12/13/97 Sunday This weekend I decided to take advantage of all this free time so much so I'm just going to list of all the things I did today. - found a free background place and stocked up on backgrounds - found a comprehensive explanation on frames and book marked it, maybe third times the charm - added back grounds to all my body level pages and some other the third levels too. - manipulated the trunks picture on my main page to be more vibrant and I cut the size by 2/3rds - changed the remkcom picture to be more vibrant - fixed background link problems with the syntax now they work properly - changed text color on several of the HTML files - found some Java scripts but was totally unimpressed - found anther HTML guide online - found out some of the uses of the tag. time: 10 hours 12/14/97 Sunday today like yesterday I spent so much time doing stuff I'm just going to list all the stuff. - read the frames tutorial - made graphics for the navigation side bar - wrote the code for the frames and fixed minor problems with them - added meta tags and a corrected menu bar to all the HTML on my site, over 40. - ran threw everything in my page and fixed all the errors I found - fixed the scroll bar problem to the best of my ability - uploaded the new and improved Max's bomb shelter - typed a new entry onto 'me' time: 10 hours 12/17/97 Wednesday Today I added the <noframes> tag to all the menu bars in my body pages, over 40, in my site and changed the index page to a option for frames or no-frames. I wrote yet another long entry for 'me' and I posted several more bass tabs Time: 3 hours 12/20/97 Saturday I went over my entire REM picture collection and uploaded some more pictures to the REM shrine and I decide to add hot links (links in a document that like to other parts of that document) to the lyrics in the REM page. I had to research how to do internal links and I set up a text document that made it possible for me to just copy and paste. I finished with 4 of the lyrics. time: 3:30 12/21/20 Sunday I spent most of my time today looking at other sites on the web for inspiration with layout for my page I realized that I still don't know have to do any of the really fun stuff like secure a real audio feed or make image maps or do tables though I have been learning a lot from just looking at source code and I learned from quin's site how to make HTML files refresh to a new document after a certain amount of time using the meta tags. I also went looking for stuff I could use on my site and found some backgrounds and I then changed some of the backgrounds on my site. Time: 4 hours 12/22/97 Monday Today I finished with the REM links in the pages and I decided to add a back to the top link to all the pages for the end of every song add to my work load and then I had to check every link by hand it took forever. Time: 3:15 12/24/97 Wednesday When checking on my pages I realized that the turn out was pretty low and so I opted to remove all the counters so as to keep it from being an issue and also to remove all the menu bars that existed to let people with out a frame capable browser navigate through my page and I got ride of the frames no frames option making the only choice being to go with frames. I also wrote another entry into 'me'. Time: 4 hours 12/25/97 Thursday While studying quin's source code I discovered how he had made a little description of the link appear in the Java box on the bottom of the browser. He used the attribute onmouseover inside <the a href> tag. I then changed all of the links within my frames navigation bar to display their own little messages. and I wrote another entry in to the tales page. Time: 1 hour 12/28/97 Sunday Today I wrote another long entry into 'me' I also ran the entire file threw spell check and grammar check and found numerous errors. Time: 1 hour 1/7/98 I decided to move Max's to a different location and settled on picketfence/1984 where it is now. I decided to move after getting my first flame and because I wanted a shorter address. I also uploaded my entire directory of Max's up to my Geocities account to make sure that the most current version was there Time: 35 min 1/18/98 From looking at Sean's source code and from reviewing another 'how to: HTML' file I learned that I can change what font face, size, and color of any text even if it is country to what is described in the body tags. I changed the color for the poems page. I also got tired of Sean's trunks picture and decided to put up an image Jenna gave me of two horses on a carousel locked forever in that unrelenting race. In order to put up Jenna's picture I had to alter it because it was a bit bland so I intensified the contrast, hue, and gamma and I changed the saturation to make it appear blue. Time: 2 hours 1/24/98 Today I bought my first HTML book, or half of it anyway, my mom paid for half. After spending about an hour trying to decide which book was right for me at a level I could afford and realizing I didn't have enough to cover it's $41.99 price tag I begged my mom who happily gave, not lended, me the extra 25 dollars. the book we bought is called, the programmers guide to HTML and has all the tags that that both Netscape 4 and msie4 use and what the consortium says is expectable for html4. I've learned quiet a few new attributes to use with the tags I already know, but this book is far from a teaching book and is instead just what it promises; a reference book. I've browsed threw the whole book and found out a few things I wanted to implement right away like fixed backgrounds and blockquote to name a few. I spent some time first adding the fixed background tag into a basic HTML header for text documents then pasting it to all my HTML files with backgrounds. I also used the blockquote and unordered lists to my HTML files that needed that kind of division. Time: 6 hours 2/4/98 Today after looking at 'Max's bomb shelter' for the first time in a long while, I've been working on another site I'm developing, I decided the name needed to change because even if the name ever fit, which I think in the beginning it did, it no longer fit anymore. The name change was smooth for the site considering the site had been subtitled 'to sleep perchance to dream' for quiet a while so the logical choice was to shorten it up to 'to sleep' at least for now and to change the front a bit. I added hamlets speech from act iii scene I and had the horse picture, that looks as if it came form a nightmare race, refresh to the speech after 40 seconds. Do to this change the site looks much better than most of my neighbors' sites in Geocities. Time: 1:25 2/7/98 I looked in on my page again today and decided that I should put up a mirror site just in case something happened to the picketfence server and so I moved what had been my second Geocities account to Athens so it too would have a shorter url and then uploaded all of Max's to that site. so now I have triple insurance that my project will not end up being a "but Traxler my computer blew up then the sever that held my site died," type scenario. Time: 2 hours 2/12/98 A week ago my dad bought me a computer magazine. I saw it and read one article and then promptly forgot it then a yesterday he asked which HTML editor I wanted based on the article in the magazine. I had not seen that article and ended up reading it. the article compared the top 7 or 8 editors available and two stood out above the rest: Front Page 98' and Dream Weaver, but front page had more things available with it that I was interested in and was also about $150 cheaper so I decided on getting front page. My dad then called around and saw if I could get a discount because I am a student. He found that I couldn't, but my mentor robin could because she's a college student and we could get front page for just $65. So we drove to robins house in west Seattle and went to the university book store in the u-district. Where I found I could get dream weaver for $150, but due to the fact that it couldn't check external or internal links I went with front page and some copyright free images on disk all this for a whooping total of $97. We then went to the book part of the university book store and I bought two books; HTML for dummies the quick reference and the programmer's guide to msei4.0. the total for these books was about $70. When we got home I installed front page 98 and began to try and figure out how it worked by the end of the day I could work semi well with the program. Time: 10 hours 2/13/98 today I spent working with front page 98 I learned that you can edit any old HTML file with it and the by doing so fix a lot of the errors or loose ends some programmer's do with out to much hassle in fact I updated all my HTML files for Max's and found editing with this program to be great. it automatically changes a simple image tag into one that properly specifies the height and width of a picture making it appear to load faster on most computers. I was able to find errors in the HTML very easily with this program. I was very impressed with how well the change from code to work template to finished product flowed. I also started reading the smallest of my three new books HTML for dummies and so far it is just a review but I am picking up a few new things and clarifying a lot of stuff that I wasn't quiet so sure about. Time: 6 hours 2/14/98 I used front page today to spell check all of my documents. I hadn't really done that before because it took too much because the tags always showed up is this proper type stuff, but with front page it as easy as working with a word processor. I also started adding graphics to the lyrics in the REM page. first when I was doing this I had paid close attention to keeping the pictures in the proper time frame but I didn't know the origin of many of the pictures and made a basic guess on when they were taken by there clothing and Michael Stipe's hair. I also redid the front page for the REM site made it look really nice with the use of the align tags that I had learned from the book. Time: 4 hours 2/16/98 I was visiting quin's site again today when I realized what the Java code at the top of his page did. it controlled what image you viewed when you put the mouse over the link and I decided that with a little work I could get it work for me so I got a copy (note: he said in the head of the document alone who wanted could use it so I'm not violating his copyrights or anything.) I also saw a very creative use of tables in the second page of republic-v a new web site I found from a link from quin's site. After getting quin's script I organized my directory again as it was getting messy in the Max's section as I'd been saving stuff haphazardly and moving things around to make uploading updates easier. Time: 3 hours 2/19/98 I re visited republic-v today and took a look at his source code for his frames page and was completely blown away there where so many tags there it made my head hurt. Visitor - the guy who runs the site - had 7 nested frames that made the layout of his page look wonderful and the center frame usually contained a separate frame set also, but unlike other frames pages I have seen that use more than two frames windows this page didn't look crowded but instead look almost as goo as a magazine layout on print - a rare thing in the uncommercial part of the web. I made a print out of his frames so that I could figure out how he had made his frames look like that. I had completely forgot how to nest frames because my page only uses two frames windows as is. After highlighting the tags and drawing several pictures I figured out just how it worked and could make something similar by hand. I also reread some of the documents I have on frames to make things clearer for me. Time: 5 hours 2/22/98 Today I got a letter from the head of the Geocities neighborhood I live in suggesting that I add a Geocities tag to every page (I have on in the navigation frame and you can't break out of that unless you know the names of the files in the directory and are will to type them in and not be able to navigate. So I need to move to another neighborhood, but when I tried I got "system error" and was unable to move even though I tried 6 or 7 times. tomorrow I guess. Time: 1:45 2/23/98 Today I went back to republic-v and I looked at his second opening page and copied the table he used to make a whirl wind of text and I look at other ways he has used tables. Table are the only basic element of HTML that I still don't understand despite many attempts to learn. I think by looking at his code I will finally master tables. all the stuff in republic-v is quite amazing for a non-commercial site. I'd still be pretty impressed if it was commercial. I think that as soon as I finish mastering tables and frames and css I should devote a lot of time to layout as I know mine really needs help, but that is what my mentor is for as her strong point is layout and not HTML mark-up. Time: 45 min Total time: 180:30 2/24/98 I came up with a new frame set for my page based on visitor's frame though simpler than his. I'll need to make new graphics for the menu bar and make a logo thought all attempts to do so thus far have resulted in failure due to the inadequacy of my image programs or my lack of knowledge in that arena. Time: 30 min Total time: 181 2/27/98 Due to the letter from the queen of the neighborhood where I've taken residence (the one telling me to move or at least add some thing to make my page appropriate the the picket fence theme) I have moved to area 51 in the labyrinth district and have also added the annoying little Geocities to the bottom of every page. The graphic I used as a link is a simple text picture that reads 'Geocities' and has a transparent back ground. Due to the letter I had re looked over the page guidelines and found that it said place a link to Geocities at the bottom of every page therefore making the frames argument weak. Time: 45 min Total time: 181:45 3/3/98 To day I got a e-mail from a person going by the name rugrat2818 who was asking for help in designing a page. I sent a letter to regret asking what they wanted to do and promising to help where I can. It feels good to have someone appreciate your web knowledge ;-) Time: 15 min Total time: 182 3/4/98 I received another e-mail from regret today stating that they didn't even know how to get in to their account to edit it. so I sent regret a long letter going over how to deal with Geocities file manager and how to upload files and which editor they should use. Time: 45 min Total time: 182:45 3/5/98 I have decided to change the look of my page by trying to keep the same basic look to all the pages in a certain area. I have started with the REM pages and am changing the fonts and making sure the back grounds are appropriate. Time: 1:15 Total time: 184 3/7/98 A while ago I realized a person could use tables to assure that their page displayed the same for almost all browsers and systems running a page though I had never found a really good use for them in my page -- until now. While trying to keep the same general look in my REM directory I found that it was near impossible to keep it looking good with out the use of tables so I dug out some of the documentation I had on tables. everything from the simplistic approach of HTML for dummies to visitor's disorienting source and figured out how to use tables effectively and not like those insane people who's ugly tables made me think I could do without that feature. Today I was able to setup a basic template for using tables and successfully applied tables to the opening page of the REM shrine and to the lyrics page for the monster album. Time: 4 hours 3/19/98 While making a webpage for a friend I had my first experience with embedding shockwave applications. it was a long and horrible process but it was clearly outlined in the shockwave flash book. Time: 1 hours 3/25/98 after diligently studying my IE programmers book I have started to understand the ability of the object tag to make my life easy and happy. I can use it to embed movies, sound, or just about any other media file. I found how to limit or completely remove the UI and have the file play in the background or in a pop-up window. I applied this knowledge to embed a mpeg3 in the background of my page and to make HTML files that can play any of the video clips I have. this promises to be a big part in my page in the future. time: 6 hours 3/31/98 After talking to Matt I decided that I needed to redesign the lyrics section of my REM shrine. I found on the web the most accurate lyrics and set up a new layout for my lyrics page. that included editing all the original HTML files to conform to my standard all 175 of them and setting up a new frame set for them. Time: 10 hours 4/1/98 In preparation for my in class presentation to my group tomorrow I made every HTML conform to a certain standard i.e. same background, same font, same alignment in the content frame. I also made the menu bar blurred as to take away the sterile facade that the page had. I transferred the finished product to a disk to take with me tomorrow. Time: 3 hours 4/2/98 I presented my page today in class to my group. I found that I would need to add some sort of always visible multimedia to the page, a logo, more content in every area, more sub-framesets, pop-up video clips, and a redesign of the REM shrine. all in all a massive redesigning of the site within a certain already established aesthetic. when I go home I designed a logo, and started to look for a CD ripper and encoder so I could make a mpeg for my site. after downloading several applications and trying them out I found that I don't have a CD player that worked with any of the rippers because they don't work with non-scsi controller so I had to use cool edit to get the songs from the CD and I used a little gem from talos industries to encode the wav into a mpeg3 file. Time: 6 hours 4/7/98 I added color to my menu bar, and I turned a plain old image of all the REM albums into an image map for the lyrics. and I added backgrounds to the lyrics pages. And I made a steadier connection between the site and it's name 'belong' by making and embedding the song 'belong' into the background of the site and changing the refreshing HTML to the lyrics to 'belong' instead of hamlets suicide speech. Time: 4 hours 4/14/98 I updated my links page to include most of the sites I visit frequently. in order to do this I had to visit most of my book marked favorite because I don't have the addresses to those sites. I also uploaded the most resent version of my site to Geocities using the ftp. Time: 2 hours 4/16/98 for the first time in almost a month I wrote an entry into the electronic journal. and I started on my works cited list. Time: 3 hours 4/17/98 while visiting blue print I found a link to Netscape where I downloaded the newest version of navigator 4.05. and I installed it and ran my page on it, I found that while ie4 did things that navigator couldn't they were minor in comparison to the tiny size of navigator compared to ie4. Time: 4 hours 4/20/98 I added sub-framesets to words, tabs, and pictures. the new menu frames I created for these use CSS, the first time I've used css is today. I had trouble in the beginning with the proper target area, but after a small tantrum I did get them working properly. I also added several things to my page including: my senior research paper, the objective to the site, a photograph area, a drawings area, and an area for rants. Time: 3 hours 4/22/98 I hate pages that are never updated, but usually the only way to tell when a site has last been updated is an admission by the author somewhere on a page. I've stayed away from announcing when my page was last updated for that reason until now. I found a Java script that told the day and date and added it to my page with an 'last updated' in front of it. I also cleaned up the problem with the tabs frameset. I changed several HTML files body tag to 'update' them to the sites new look. I finally changed the front page for the REM shrine, it uses css and Java now. I also finished my works cited. I've been planning for my presentation next week also. Time: 5 hours 4/23/98 after my group meeting today I went to the library and reserved the computer projector and a windows NT machine to present my project on. when I got home I started tidying up my web page and worked on making external style sheets. Time: 3 Hours 4/24/98 today I brought in ei4 to be installed on the aforementioned windows NT machine. it went on after a mild struggle. When I got home I planted the link to the 'main.css' in all of the 'body' level HTML files and an 'REM.css' for all the REM file except the lyrics files -- I'll do them latter. Time: 2 hours 4/25/98 I started adding the side bar menu to all the main sections, this meant I had to design a lot of new frames HTML files and I made place holders for options not yet existent but on the menu. Such as the photos, or drawings. I found quiet a few problems with the new frames I created when testing them out but fixed them. Time:4 hours 4/26/98 Today I did generally polishing of my page I added the justify command in the style sheet and fixed the little errors and so on and so forth. Today I also when to my mentors house to pick up a zip drive she bought me as an early graduation present and to show her how far my page has come since the last online update. Time: 3 hours 4/27/98 Today I tried to install my zip drive, it was a nightmare it wouldn't work then after several attempts it crashed my system and finally after about 3 hours of frustration my dad come home and checked the connection in the computer it self and the security of the connection between the computer and the zip and while the problem was fixed and I got the zip to work after it worked I installed the presentation version of my page on to the zip drive. Time:6 Hours 4/29/98 Today I watched mat's presentation in class and got several ideas on how to make my presentation better. I then Brought my zip drive to school to add all the files to the windows NT machine but had problems so we ended up installing it through another computer to the sever then we gave me access to that directory. after we got most of it on we then tried it out and found the mpg3 didn't stream so I'd need to make an wav instead and that a bunch a nitty gritty things need to be done. when I got home I started on getting all the right files on the zip and creating the visual guides I'd need in my presentations. and making the new wav file -- no easy task give my file size limitation. after finishing up on the finally polishing type stuff I presented my page to my mom -- twice. the first time I took over an hour the second I did it in 38 mins -- I hope to get it down to 25 the next time. While presenting I found several problems like the wrong side menu bar and missing files after replacing them I can say my project is ready to be seen by the public. Time: 12 hours |
